Tracy’s Travel Adventure (PART 2): Bath, UK

Hello Readers!

This is part 2 of my travel adventure since I left home on July 6th, 2023. If you haven’t read part 1, please feel free to read it here.

Bath, UK (July 14th-17th, 2023)

Oh Bath…this was my aunt’s recommendation. She mentioned that Bath was a beautiful place and had a slower pace of life (something that I hadn’t realized I really valued day to day at the time). As a side note, thanks Aunty Sylvia for taking me travelling at a young age and showing me how much I love travelling and can learn from the world.

Day 1: Pouring Rain, A Beautiful Bookstore and a Walking Tour

Bath is a smaller town located about a 3 hour bus ride from London. Antonia and I pre-planned this trip prior to my leaving Vancouver so bus tickets were much cheaper (see https://www.nationalexpress.com/en for purchasing bus tickets). Below is the coach station.

Arrival in Bath:

When we arrived in Bath, it was absolutely pouring rain. Like. buckets of rain, but hilarious for us. We’re from “Raincouver” (the nickname of Vancouver because it rains so much there) so we handled it well…I think? After we dropped our items off in the hostel, we took refuge in a BEAUTIFUL Topping and Co. Bookstore where they offer you a hot pot of tea and some cookies while you read. For those of you from Vancouver, it’s like Indigo with a more peaceful, homey vibe and ladders which are like the ones in Belle’s library from Beauty and the Beast (yes. I did climb up the ladder)

After the bookstore, like true Vancouverites, we headed into the stormy weather and enjoyed an incredible walking tour. It’s put on by The Mayor of Bath’s Honorary Guides and is completely free (no tips allowed). They absolutely love telling the story of their town and it was incredibly engaging even with the crazy weather.

UNESCO World Heritage City, filming location of Bridgerton and site of the Roman Baths. Not many photos here…it was too rainy.

The next days…

Antonia and I visited the Roman Baths, took a bath…in Bath…and made friends with a couple of the ladies in our dorm room.

The Roman Baths:

Bath Backpackers Hostel:

New Friends:

Lira is an artist from Germany who was in town to go to a wedding and Lauren (fellow Canadian) had a few days to spare before heading off to her hometown in England. We’re all neurodivergent in some regard or another so we clicked super well. Unfortunately, we didn’t have that much time as we were all leaving to head back to our respective homes, but we definitely enjoyed the day together.

Summary:

Bath is an incredible place to visit and is well-worth a trip. If I go back to London again in the near future, it’s definitely worth a revisit for the beautiful scenery, quiet atmosphere and wonderful bookstore. No joke…that bookstore is a place to spend an afternoon.

Happy travels!

Tracy

PS: Part 3 will be up next Thursday (HK time) on May 2nd/24 and will encompass the time back in London before Edinburgh, Scotland
